Now that we have introduced this powerful search tool we are going to present one of the most important folders in Mac OS X or the Applications folder. And 'possible to reach this folder or directly through the finder fienstra label Positions Applications list, or by searching with spotlight and opening the folder from there.

The Applications folder is a folder of Mac OS X core because it contains all the applications that Apple provides with the operating system. Also when you install a new application, it will end precisely in this folder and will be identified by a representative icon. Throughout your experience using Mac OS X access to this folder so many times, is to install new applications or to remove them. Later in this guide will explain in great detail both processes.

To make a new application is sufficient to position the desired application icon and double click. So we go to do this for example TextEdit application identified by this icon (to speed the task of identification you can use this integrated research program in the spotlight in the finder in the manner shown above):

For the moment we neglect the interface that the program gives us because we do not care and use of this simple text editor will be discussed further during dela guide.

The first thing we notice is the fact that the status bar of the desktop has changed, as the menu for the Finder has been replaced with the menu on the application we are using now. Now we sent our first application running and now it is time to learn how to close it.

The operation more intuitive that the player can do to close the application is to click the red circle in the status bar of the application. As you can see the application screen disappears, but looking at the dock we see that the ellipse in the sky, the icon is still present. What happened? We just closed the window of the application, but it is still running because it resides in memory. To finish the process on the application you can follow two roads: we can go on the menu delle'ditor TextEdit and then click Quit TextEdit

Closing TextEdit

or use the keyboard shortcut Cmd + Q. The above said is valid for any application that you want to end as you can chiuderladal menu or by simply using the keyboard shortcut. The operations that can be performed directly via the keyboard you can find them in the application menu, in fact if you look carefully at the screenshot next to the Exit item from the keyboard shortcut are listed precdentemente.

The reader might be of interest to maintain, permanently, in the dock any application that is not present by default. To do this just run the application, navigate to the icon in the Dock, click the right button, then click on Options and then click Keep In Dock.

Operation to maintain an application in the Dock

Another way to maintain an application in the dock is to click once on the application icon, hold down, drag it to the dock to the desired position then release (you will see that at the point where it releases you'll see a space where it will occur position your application).
