We introduce now another very useful tool that Mac OS X offers, or void spaces. With this tool we can handle, simultaneously, multiple virtual desktops and maintain, in each of the desktop applications to give a specific order to the desk when open applications are many.
Let's go now to see what it is. Default is spaces accessible from F8 key but, as we can see looking at the keyboard, a button is delegated to the audio / video controller (it is on a key symbol of the play and pause) and then to activate spaces must press the following conbinazione Fn + F8. The result is shown in the screenshot below:

As we can see from the screenshot proposed, will be displayed on the screen four panels representing the four virtual desktops that you can handle. In this view, are also shown in different windows open space, the lower left contains several windows while the other three are empty. In fact, if we try to click on one of these three will have a clean desktop, or with no window.
In the new space clean so we can open up new applications and keep the windows only in that space, or returning to the original windows in the open space will not be shown. Of course you can move application windows from one space to another in a very simple and fast. Suppose you want to move into an empty space to the Applications folder that is visible in the last Screenshots, simply click on the window, and holding, wanted to move in space. This way you can organize even more perfect, the various spaces.
But if for example we want to drag a window from one space to another, but it is covered by other windows? The answer is simple. When we go into how spaces can also use the Exposé mode, which will order our windows in all four space. In this way we will have no problem to find the desired window and drag it into another space.
It 'also possible to move from one space to another by simply pressing the key combination Ctrl + arrows. The transition from one to another spaces is accompanied by a small pop-up window that shows the space in which you are presently:

We are now going to make some customizations for enabling Spaces and Exposé. We click on System Preferences identified by this icon:

The System Preferences application is the equivalent of the Control Panel in Windows and from here we can make different settings of the operating system and its tools. Then click Exposé >

As we can see, the first thing you can do is to enable or disable the tool spaces and decide whether to show in the button bar, the number of the space in which we find ourselves at this time. If you enable this feature will appear in the status bar the following icon:

In the box below to black background, you can also configure the number of spaces on which you can work. Honestly increase the number of spaces is a rather useless, because the four that are offered by default we say they are more than enough.
In the bottom of the window can also assign certain applications to every single space and customize the keys with which to call the tool space. Finally you can also customize the key combination to move from one space to another.
In the next chapter we analyze the system preferences related to Exposé.
