Spotlight: Built-in status bar

As mentioned in the previous chapter can be accessed from the Finder or Spotlight to the status bar. So let us go now to click on the magnifying glass (upper right) was doing the bar look like the text field in which we can insert the strinag research.

We insert our text search (still "MrWebMaster") in the field provided and you will immediately see the spotlight window showing a lengthening series of results. A esmepio of the results from research on my computer is as follows:

It 'can instantly find some differences between the display of the results we are offered by integrated spotlight in the finder and accessible via the status bar. This fact does not show the additional search bar with which you can filter the data, but above all does not show search results (remember that with spotlight in the finder had found 100 matches). The reason for this view of the results more compact as it is due to the fact that automatically provide the user tries to spotlight the most significant results for the search words you enter.

That way if the file will be sought in this list dall'tente compact detection is immediate, and if the file is not in the list shown by spotlight will still have access to all the search results simply by clicking on show all which will open a new finder window with search results displayed in the main window.

Continuing the analysis provided above screenshot we can see that the results are organized in a sort of blocks identified by the labels on the left. This allows a visualization of the results acora more useful because they are organized by type: if I'm looking for a folder that has the name of the search words entered, I will immediately place the label to see of your files Folders. The number and type of grouping labels varies from search to search depending on the results obtained: indeed, if, for example, Isner a search key that does not refer to the label image images disappear. but if you enter the Music folder of the results there are audio files.

Probably, among all the labels that you can see in the screenshot, the reader's attention will be captured best by the label: this label contains the result that the second spotlight is the one that best fits the search criteria for both the number of occorrezze search key that contains both the increased use by the user.

Using Spotlight, you can also do a sort of localization files in our hard diskd. To do this, simply place one of the files between the results of the spotlight, hold down the Control key on your keyboard and then click on the file. Finally, as we can see from the screenshot on the results of the search for the key MrWebMaster, is the voice Spotlight Preferences at the bottom of the list of search results. If you click on that item will open a new window (we see that the application will launch System Preferences but it will be analyzed later) that allows some settings regarding the operation of the spotlight:

As we can see, you can select the types of files to include in the search and you can also change the display order of categories by simply dragging them higher or lower. You can also set keyboard shortcuts to open er spotlight: the first setting refers to spotlight in the status bar and the second integrated spotlight in finder.
