Create a puzzle from an image
We can also have fun with the Gimp to create, from any of our images, some nice puzzles to print and cut out fun and then to reconstruct them, or simply to make a personalized gift to our friends.
Open the image you want to turn into a jigsaw puzzle with The Gimp.
We choose the voice dubbing from the Image menu to create a copy of your picture, so to secure the original file from accidental changes.
In the work we move the duplicate file in the
Filters menu and choose the submenu and then
render reason.
Then click on
the puzzle.
This is a plugin automatically included in the program, which is used specifically to create an image divided into many
pieces.
Obviously we will decide how many shares should be divided and that the picture
size they should have.
Then adjust the settings according to your needs, choosing the
number of pieces in each row and each column, the
'amplitude of the contours of the tiles, the'
intensity of the brightness of the contours and style of embossed cards, which can be square or curves.
View, every time you make a change, the 'real-time preview window at the top.
When we finished, click OK to confirm our decisions.
Now comes the part a little 'more challenging work.
We have to choose the
Freehand selection tool and start selecting the contours of the first tile in the upper left.
Since this is a very delicate operation we take great care to select the contours of the card as
accurately as possible.
To help we can
zoom in the image by choosing one or more times
zoom zoom submenu from the
View menu.
Then choose
copy from the
edit menu item and open a new document of the program
(File -> New), trying to give it a width and height it
can take
the card that we just copied.
Remember to set the background transparent.
Glue the card to the new file and save it that we have copied as a simple image with the extension you prefer.
Let's follow the same job with all the other tiles and in the end we will have all the images that make up our puzzles to print or store.
