Addressing a topic in a comprehensive and original

At this point we understand what are the main differences between the print and the Web, we also understand that the key to success is being able to create the right content to our audience. In this lesson we will cover another crucial aspect, namely how to deal with a topic in a comprehensive manner and interesting.

The writer has in a professional, usually a specific need: to write well, quickly, managing to say something new and appealing.

As professional writers know, in the field of writing there are several techniques to achieve these objectives, techniques that can be successfully translated the writing on the internet. In this lesson we will see, therefore, two techniques to increase productivity in the process of writing.

The techniques in question are the 'SWOT analysis and the technique of the six hats. Let's look in detail.

SWOT analysis

SWOT is an acronym for S trenghts (strengths), eaknesses W (weaknesses), O pportunities (opportunities) and T hreats (threats). This analysis technique - useful in dealing with any subject - can be presented graphically as a grid of four quadrants.

Reading the image vertically, in the first column (the left) are shown the positive elements in the second (right column) and negative:

  • strengths are the main aspects to talk about;
  • opportunities should be highlighted in the right way to capture the interest of the reader;
  • highlight the weak points are particular to propose, where possible, corrections and improvements;
  • degi the threats are not yet concrete aspects, but could become so in the future, these aspects are highlighted because they offer the reader food for thought.

The six hats

The Six Hats of Edward De Bono is a technique primarily used to stimulate creativity or manage group brainstorming, but it is also a technique very creative and original approach to a topic.

The idea (metaphorical) proposed by De Bono is to "wear a hat" to think, which is to make a gesture of strength, do something unusual for escape from the usual thinking patterns.

The six hats designed by De Bono have different colors, and each serves to represent a function:

  • White hat: used to collect data and information assumes a neutral attitude (think like a computer).
  • Red Hat: hat is the emotion and enthusiasm linked (tackling the issue with the heart).
  • Black Hat: indicated to show the negative aspects of an idea, basically pessimistic (see only negatives).
  • Yellow Hat: indicates positivity and optimism (think constructively).
  • Green hat; shows creativity and innovation (addressing the issue in a creative way).
  • Blue Hat: indicates the rationality and the organization, in a sense is the hat the more important as organizing the thoughts of the "other hat" and organizes it in a consistent manner (reassemble thoughts with consistency).

In addressing an argument, then, is suggested to abandon the traditional ways to cross these six stages (not necessarily in the order suggested) of thought. The technique of De Bono, if carried out meticulously, you can greatly expand the point of view on any story or topic you want to be treated, allowing the writer to examine the question in all its aspects.
