On many occasions it may be interesting and handy to have the opportunity to share a file over the network in a simple and safe, we think of as a working document to be processed as a group. One way of addressing this is represented by FileZilla Server software, downloadable free from filezilla-project .

This program enables you to create a real server to other computers, which serve as the client can connect, for example through its own version of the same client software (Filezilla Client), and implement file transfer operations, using an appropriate protocol for transmitting data, known as FTP (file transfer protocol).

Then we evaluate how to install and use the FileZilla Server. Imagine, in this article, that you have a computer running Windows, it should be noted, however, as Filezilla Server is executable on other operating systems (such as belonging to the family Linux or Mac OS).

Installation

First of all you need, as you can see from the screenshot below, accept the terms of use of the program, licensed under GNU .

You can then specify which components to install: select the standard version. We also observe that it is possible for interested programmers, also have access to source code by which the application has been programmed: it would be sufficient to apply the check to the "Source Code", by clicking with the mouse.
Let us now call the folder where the program is installed, the default is: C: \ Program Files \ FileZilla Server. Notice also how the space occupied by Filezilla Server on your hard disk is very small, given that this is 3.8 MB.

The next step is a significant moment of the installation, it is possible to choose how to start Filezilla Server. For ease of use, select the default option "Install as service, started with Windows" and check the "Start server after setup completes". In this way the program will be installed as a Windows service, which is activated automatically when the computer starts.

Also Filezilla Server runs automatically at the end of the installation procedure. However, we will evaluate later as it is possible to proceed to the activation of a Windows service manually.

Again for simplicity, we make sure that the interface Filezilla server is activated automatically as a result of any user login (option "if user logs Starts on, apply to all users") and do so by checking the "Start interface after setup completes "that this interface is started automatically after installation.
Then click on "Install" button and begin the installation process. Soon after, through the following screen, we are informed of the installation is complete and we can therefore, by clicking on "Close" to end such a procedure.
Before giving a simple example of using the program, however, we will, as already mentioned, what is the correct way to start a Windows service manually, if this option is chosen during installation.
